Oat Milk + HXNY

Brew House Arts, Pittsburgh, PA
Nov - Dec 2024

"A play on the idiom 'Land of Milk and Honey,' Oat Milk + HXNY features 35 artists from three diasporic communities, representing 11 ethnicities, whose authentic and individual stories weave together to form a rich tapestry of the collective experience of being a BIPOC in America. Through genealogy, ancestry, and personal experiences, the pieces in this exhibit explore the themes of connectivity, spirituality, and the essence of remembering."

Pantheon
(“the gods of a people”) is a reimagining of 16th-18th century religious paintings of the holy spirit depicting Black women as the prototype—the origin of humanity—and worthy of worship. Consisting of a large-scale portrait & corresponding altar, this installation debuted at Prizm Art Fair during Art Basel Miami in 2022.

Oat Milk + HXNY marks the first time Pantheon has been on-view in the city it was created - Pittsburgh, PA. The altar was expanded to commemorate this occasion.

"A lush underground sanctuary blanketed with vines of ivy, eucalyptus, and wisteria houses six towering goddesses with six corresponding altars of worship. Each goddess is a Black woman; deservedly exalted; adorned in the gifts left for them; and housed in communion with her sister deities. Evidence of recent Bacchanalia and worship–wine glasses, cheese & fruit, discarded garments, candles, incense, sage, oils, herbs–are scattered throughout, converging in the middle of the space..."
